Final review meeting for the VAN research project

Last 30th june at the SINTESI premises in Bari, it has been held the final review meeting for the VAN european research project (Virtual Automation Network).

The project, started on 2006 and counting among its partners besides MCM, Siemens, Schneider Electric e Phoenix Contact, has developped a communication technology for the realization of virtual networks dedicated to the industrial automation, that is an infrastructure able to support the safe and in real time comminication needs for the control and the management of complex installations.

This technology has been applied to the control and to the supervision of the MCM FMS system installed at the Sintesi Bari syndicate. During the demonstration, which from the revisers report "has added value to the whole project", it has been showed the plant running coordinated by a local jFMX supervisor, measuring the communication performances exploiting the company net to safely transfer both coordination signals form supervisor to devices, and signals between machines controller and robots, to avoid collisions during handlings.
However the topical moment has been the passage of the installation control from the local jFMX to the jFMX installed at MCM premises in Vigolzone and connected through Internet.

In this case the VAN virtual net exploiting both the public net and the company net, has made transparent the passage fromt local supervisor to the remote one.

The demonstrated technology, once entered in production, will make efficient and safer the services realization for productive plants, from the back-up and datas restore on geographical basis, to the remote control for performances parameters, to the failure diagnosis and maintenance, up to the remote supply of advanced services for planning and simulation.
